Dementia Care

The dementia care sector is changing to better meet the needs of people living with dementia and their families. The goal is to enhance quality of life and the experience of living with the disease. A good understanding of care services will help you make informed decisions about care and understand what ‘best’ care services should look and feel like.

There has been a lot of research into how services can better support people living with dementia. Different models of care have been developed, seeking to change the way in which we care for and support people with dementia. At the core of good quality models of care and at the heart of what we do at Alzheimer’s WA, are the underpinning principles of what is called a person-centred approach.

A person-centred approach ensures that the person with dementia is involved in any decisions made about their life. A person-centred approach focuses on enhancing quality of life and considers all aspects of the human experience, including physical, emotional, social, spiritual and psychological.
