Vale Craig Masarei – Former Chair, Alzheimer’s WA

It is with deep sadness that I acknowledge the passing of Craig Masarei, a passionate advocate, leader and cherished Life-time member of our Alzheimer’s community. As former Chair of Alzheimer’s WA for over 20 years (2000- 2020), Craig brought extraordinary dedication and compassion to the fight against Alzheimer’s disease in this State.

During his tenure, he championed for more respite care to support families impacted by dementia, and helped expand the reach and impact of our programs including the opening of Hawthorn House in Albany. In August 2024, we honoured Craig by naming one of the rooms in the new extension of Don‘s Cottage. We hope that will continue to be a token of our appreciation of his work.

Craig was not only a strong leader but also a person of profound empathy, always centering the voices of those living with dementia. The legacy of Craig and his adoring wife Rommie will endure in the lives of people touched by their work, the initiatives they spearheaded, and the community they helped build.
We are profoundly grateful for his contribution and mourn their loss alongside Rommie, Kate, Tim, Lucy and their families, friends, and all those who were fortunate to work with Craig.

As the current Chair, I enjoyed a great personal relationship with Craig and appreciated his strong support and he will be deeply missed. On behalf of Alzheimer’s WA, the Board Directors past and present, CEOs who served under him, our Members, the community, and all the people whose lives he made a difference to, we extend our heartfelt condolences.

May he now rest in peace surrounded by his faith and our love.
