The heart will remember what the mind may forget.

Who are you walking for?

Register Now

As the leading cause of death for women in Australia and the second leading cause for men, we all know someone who has been affected by dementia.

The Alzheimer’s WA Walk to Remember is the premier fundraising event in Western Australia supporting people living with dementia. Now in its 9th year (in the current format) the Walk to Remember has raised over $300,000 for direct care, research and training.

By walking to remember those we’ve loved and lost, we can help ensure those who are currently living with dementia never have to walk alone.

Choose between a 1km, 3km or 5km walk, followed by entertainment, food and beverage vans and family activities. All ages and capabilities are welcome and this year, children under 12 walk for free.

Date: 8 November 2026

Why do we walk?

Walking, and daily exercise in general, has been shown to help prevent the onset of dementia and is also helpfully for people living with dementia to slow cognitive decline.

One study showed walking 9800 steps per day reduced the risk of a being diagnosed with dementia by half. Another showed that 30 minutes of vigorous walking decreased the risk by 60%!

Exercise improves blood flow and has been shown to release chemicals that can break down amyloid, one of the indicators for some types of Alzheimer’s.

So not only is walking a great way to get out and enjoy the Perth spring weather with your loved ones, but the health benefits for all, are clear. What better way to remember and reflect on those we’ve lost than to do something beneficial to our own health, raise much needed funds and have fun doing so.

Dementia is a rapidly growing health issue and by 2030 we expect the number of Western Australian’s living with the disease to reach 60,000 people.
