Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of Alzheimer’s WA, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most. By joining our team, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with your local community, make new friends, and develop valuable skills that can even support your career growth. Volunteering isn’t just about giving back – it can also have positive benefits for your mental and physical wellbeing. As a valued volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in helping our clients maintain their independence, reduce isolation, and stay socially engaged. Whether you’re assisting in our corporate office, memory cafés or supporting our respite houses, your time and effort will have a lasting impact.

Why volunteer with Alzheimer’s WA?

• Build valuable work experience for your CV or student placement!
• Receive training in the dementia sector from experienced mentors
• Give back to the community by directly interacting with people living with dementia
• Connect and network with professionals in the nonprofit and healthcare industry
• Raise funds for research that could one day uncover the cure for dementia and Alzheimer’s

What opportunities do we have?

We offer volunteering opportunities within our Marketing Team and our Respite Houses. These would especially suit students or those with an interest in Marketing, Events, Public Relations, Community Support and Engagement, Business, Nursing, Aged Care and Social Work.

Events

Volunteer to help us promote, set up and run our annual events such as the Golden Age Hollywood Fundraiser, The Dementia Symposium and the Walk to Remember. We also encourage anyone seeking an office-based volunteer opportunity to apply if interested in content creation, copywriting and graphic design!

Memory Cafés

Volunteer to help run our Memory Café in South Perth or Woodvale. Memory Cafés are an important social outing for people living with dementia and offers them a space where they can interact and connect over morning tea and boardgames. You can help run these by handing out names tags, making sure everyone gets a coffee and cake, taking attendance, and setting up tables and chairs.

Respite Houses

Volunteer in our respite houses (located in Shenton Park, Woodvale, Mandurah or Albany) by collaborating with our support workers to ensure the smooth and effective running of group activities, offer personalised one-on-one interaction with clients by helping them complete puzzles, colouring books etc., and encourage social interaction among group members by starting conversations and promoting inclusion.

Am I eligible?

We kindly request that all our volunteers obtain a volunteer police check and are up to date with their vaccinations if working directly with our clients.

Interested? We want to hear from you!

Alzheimer’s WA relies on people just like you to undertake a wide range of voluntary roles within our organisation to help enhance the quality of life of people living with dementia, add value to our services, and complement the work of our staff in their professional roles. We are excited to provide these opportunities and look forward to welcoming new volunteers to help us with our important mission!
